A Little Rain Doesn’t Stop a Warrior: Planning an Outdoor Event Around the Weather

Planning an outdoor event can be hard. We understand the challenge, and we will do everything in our ability to help you carry it.

We know planning events can be difficult. The weather, the unforeseen, the hundred small things that can change the morning of. We have hosted a lot of gatherings on this property over the years, and if we are honest, putting on an outdoor event causes us to pray a lot.

A little rain doesn’t stop a warrior.

Yesterday, in the rain.

On Sunday, October 4, we pulled off an event in the rain with more than 200 people. Nobody went home early and nobody called it off. A little rain doesn’t stop a warrior.

It wasn’t luck, though. It worked because the plan was made before the clouds showed up: tents sized properly for the crowd, accommodations ready for people to get out of the weather, and a close eye on the forecast in the days leading up to it. When the rain came, everyone knew where to go and the day kept moving.

Wedding guests gathered outdoors between shade trees and white reception tents on the lawn

How we help you plan for the forecast.

We can’t promise sunshine. Nobody honestly can. What we can promise is that we will work through the weather with you long before the day arrives:

What a practical rain plan covers

  • Tents sized for your full guest count, not just the head table
  • Cover for food, music and anything that needs power
  • A backup space, such as our pickleball court, discussed in advance
  • Watching the forecast together in the days before
  • Agreeing ahead of time when to switch to the backup plan
  • Where guests park and walk if the ground is wet
  • How you will let guests and vendors know about changes

Before you book, we will explain what the backup space can accommodate and any additional setup needs or costs, so there are no surprises on the day. You can read more about our plan for the forecast on the home page.

Finding peace with the risk.

Every outdoor event carries some risk. That is part of what makes it beautiful: open sky, fresh air, room for everyone. For our son’s wedding on this same property, we made a backup plan, prayed, and by the good Lord’s grace the rain passed around us. Yesterday the rain didn’t pass around us, and the day was still a good one because we were ready for it.

The property is G. Grace Farm (God Grace Farm), and the name is not an accident. We do the practical work: the tents, the forecast, the backup space, the honest conversations. Then we leave the rest in God’s hands. Our hope is to help you find that same peace, whether you are planning a wedding, a fundraiser, a company picnic or something we have not thought of yet.

Worried about the weather? Let’s talk it through.

Tell John your date, your guest count and what you are planning. We will walk the property with you and work out a practical plan for whatever the sky decides to do.
